Mauritius is set to host the International Kreol Festival from December 12 to 22, 2024, marking the first time the entire island will resound with the melodies and aromas of this celebratory event. The festival’s theme for this year, “Kreolite boté nou mauricianisme” (creolity, beauty of our Mauritianism), aims to be exceptionally inclusive.
The Festival schedule was unveiled yesterday at the poignant Musée Intercontinental de l’Esclavage, where Tourism Minister Richard Duval and Junior Minister Sydney Pierre highlighted the festival’s nationwide significance.
Richard Duval expressed, “This national festival is intended to showcase the richness of our Creole culture, pivotal to the essence of Mauritius. We aimed for wide-ranging diversity, delicately crafting it as a grand spectacle of our Creole heritage.”
Additionally, the Ministry of Tourism has made a conscious effort to bring the Festival to all corners of the island. From December 16 to 20, 2024, a Festival caravan will traverse the island, featuring Creole comedy shows and specifically targeting underserved communities.
According to Sydney Pierre, the International Kreol Festival serves as an ideal platform to exhibit Mauritius’ Creole identity and expertise on the global stage. He stated, “Creolité is a vast global movement, and Mauritius undoubtedly holds a significant place within it. We envision establishing this Festival as one of the attractions drawing tourists to our shores over the years. Consequently, our overseas diplomatic missions have been tasked with promoting it.”
The Tourism Minister emphasized that the International Kreol Festival is merely the commencement of the ministry’s commitment to spotlight various facets of Mauritius, in addition to its stunning beaches and top-tier hotels.
