Addressing longstanding traffic congestion issues in Mauritius has been a persistent challenge. Previous efforts to tackle this problem have yielded limited success. Consequently, a new real-time road-traffic monitoring mobile application has been developed by Mauritius Telecom to capitalize on the widespread use of smartphones and the wealth of trajectory data they now offer. This application embraces mobile crowdsensing and crowdsourcing principles, aiming to relieve the strain on Mauritian roads, especially during peak hours.
The system integrates data from smartphone sensors, traffic-related user-generated posts on a crowdsourcing platform, live road-related articles from online news sources, and insights from historical data to deliver real-time traffic updates. As a result, users can estimate travel times, plan routes in advance, stay informed about potential road hazards, and ultimately experience smoother and stress-free journeys.
You can check live cameras on Mauritius Telecom website here – https://www.myt.mu/sinformer/trafficwatch/ or download the app as below:

- Apple – https://apps.apple.com/mu/app/traffic-watch-mauritius/id1172286314
The app is really handy if you are looking to time your travel as it gives real time view using street cameras which even Google maps will not give you.
