As October is nearing to an end and warm summer season approaching in Mauritius, we would like to warn people to check for cyclones before making their travel plans.
Mauritius is prone to be hit by topical storms during the summer season, between November and April. The risks are higher during the more active period, from mid-December through March, when the sea temperature gets warmer.
The cyclonic season officially starts on 15 November and ends on 15 May. However, with the global warming and changing environment trends, cyclone could come sooner than later. Recent example is with Cyclone Dana in India that came unprecedented in October when monsoon is supposed to be receding the country.
Cyclone Belal which came in January 2024 was really bad and caused a lot of damage, so brace yourself for another cyclone season and check the weather predictions before planning any beach activity.
