Cyclone warning Mauritius

Latest update as of 26th Feb 2025

During the night, Garance has intensified into a Severe Tropical Storm.

Garance is expected to eventually recurve towards the south and as such constitutes a potential threat to Mauritius. More damage is expected to happen in Reunion but not a major damage will be seen in Mauritius. There is no reason to panic, however, please stay indoors.

Tropical Cyclone Garance is forecast to track near Reunion Island as a hurricane, something that hasn’t happened since Cyclone Firinga in 1989, a Category 2 equivalent on the Saffir Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale

A cyclone warning of class 2 has been issued in Mauritius for today. The tropical disturbance has intensified into a tropical depression during last night. The environmental conditions remain favourable for further intensification while approaching dangerously the mascarenes.

The situation is being closely monitored by the Mauritius Meteorological Services and you can check live updates on their website.

All the residents and tourists are advised to not venture close to the ocean. Heavy rains are likely so if you are going out, make sure to carry rainwear with you. Stay safe!
