Under Section 35 of the Bank of Mauritius Act 2004, the Bank of Mauritius (Bank) will introduce new Rs1000 polymer banknotes. These updated polymer notes may bear a close resemblance to the current paper currency, but they integrate new security elements, such as a Dodo image within a transparent window and a ‘SPARK Flow® PRIME’ feature.

The new Rs1000 polymer banknotes will be in circulation alongside the existing paper banknotes, and both forms will retain their status as legal tender. The Bank is working in close collaboration with financial institutions and cash handlers to ensure a seamless transition to the new banknotes.

Additionally, polymer notes in Rs100 and Rs200 denominations are set to be issued in 2025.
